Yesterday I learned about the notion of "clearinghouses," and I realized that Liberapay counts as a clearinghouse! Clearinghouses are places/entities that hold onto a pot of money that is likely to change hands, for the entities that are likely to pass around claims to that money; these make the matter of handling money more efficient when transactions tend to take place between the same entities, as only net exchanges will need to take place instead of gross exchanges, letting fees be put aside.

This makes sense for mutual supports within-industry and bringing in funding from sources that interact with other industries and markets.
